Military and civilian personnel living or working at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) or in its vicinity are invited to help fellow military personnel who have taken on a community service project to benefit middle school children at the John Hayden-Johnson Middle School located at 1400 Bruce Pl. SE, just off of Suitland Pkwy. in southeast D.C.

The school has not had a library/learning center in five years, but that is about to change. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Stephen Arbona is leading a group of volunteers from various commands based at JBAB to help sort books into fiction and non-fiction, then alphabetize them.

Arbona said, “We spent the better part of two hours separating the books and just need to alphabetize them and put them on the shelves.”

The school is planning a grand re-opening of their learning center Feb. 9, 2011.

“To ensure the re-opening happens, we’d like to make a big push Monday and Tuesday [Feb. 7 and 8] to get the library squared away. I think we’ll need seven to ten personnel each day from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.,” Arbona said.

Military or civilian personnel interested in volunteering are asked to e-mail Stephen.Arbona@pentagon.af.mil with their names and what day and hours or hours they can assist.
