Commander, Navy Installations Command Message

CNIC Team,

This week, we’ll mark the 238th year of our Nation’s independence. As you hang bunting and flags, fire up the grill, and enjoy the time off, I ask that you remember that our independence and the freedoms we enjoy today came at a price of blood and treasure. There are many — military and civilian — who came before us to fight for our independence and defend it during the past two centuries. So, on this Independence Day, I’d ask that you remember those who have gone before but I’d also ask you to reflect on our freedoms and our country has earned and maintained them. As recent world events show us, freedoms like ours are neither permanent nor guaranteed but they are always precious.

Also, I’d ask you to remember that this holiday weekend there will be dedicated service members and civilians working hard and standing watch in defense of our country and all it stands for. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers and, if you have the opportunity, thank them.

Lastly, holidays bring risk. Whether you’re on the road, in the swimming pool, at the beach, hiking in the mountains, or just relaxing at home, please put “safety first.” Be thoughtful around the grill, designate a driver if you plan to drink, lather on the sunscreen, and stay safe out there.

I am very proud of each and every one of you for the great work you do in support of the Fleet, Fighter and Family. Each of you make a difference every day as part of our global shore enterprise team. I am continually impressed by your professionalism and dedication.

I wish you and your family a safe and relaxing holiday. Happy Independence Day!

All the best,
VADM Bill French

Top Three organization to host welcome at Slip Inn – June 6

By Senior Master Sergeant Ryan P. Dolan
The Washington Area Top III
Special to Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Public Affairs

WASHINGTON – The Air Force Washington Area Top III (WAT III) organization will host a welcome to the Top III celebration, and membership drive at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) on June 6.

The event takes place at JBAB’s Slip Inn (adjacent to the Marina) at 2 p.m. to honor those selected for promotion into the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) corps.

WAT III exists to increase the visibility, recognition, and esprit de corps of Airmen assigned to the Pentagon, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, and throughout the National Capital Region. As such, we want to welcome all those who will soon join the SNCO corps.

The event will include food and refreshments, along with an informal ceremony to congratulate the newly selected promotees.

The WAT III welcomes all newly selected master sergeants, all current WAT III members and any SNCOs who wish to celebrate the accomplishments of the Air Force’s newly selected promotees to join us.

The WAT III is an organization of exemplary SNCOs making a difference every day for our enlisted corps. Some of our annual events include the Community College of the Air Force graduation ceremony, the SNCO induction ceremony and the junior enlisted holiday social, along with numerous mentoring and professional development opportunities.

To join the WAT III, the annual dues are $20 and the meetings are on the third Thursday of every month, alternating between JBAB and the Pentagon.

Please come out and help us honor our newest members!

Additionally, the WAT III will formally recognize newly minted Air Fore SNCOs at the annual National Capital Region SNCO induction ceremony. This event will take place at the JBAB Club on Aug. 15 at 6 p.m.

In order to bring this ceremony together, the WAT III will hold the following fund raising events in the coming weeks which may be of interest to the wider JBAB community:

1. Treat your family and friends to a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball game on Sunday, June 8th at 2:05 p.m. The SNCO Induction committee will earn $6.50 from each ticket sold with our fundraising code – WAT3.

2. On Friday, June 13 (all day), at Buffalo Wild Wings in St. Charles, MD, The WAT III will earn 10-20% of all food proceeds from patrons presenting the coupon found in the flyer on our Facebook page. Please share the coupon far and wide.

3. There will be an Air Force One basket drawing on July 3rd. Tickets are just $1 each or $5 for seven tickets.

4. Support our bake sale! See the pre-order list on our Facebook page to place an order for a baked good that will serve eight-12 people. All items cost $15. Orders will be delivered on July 3rd.

Morale, Welfare and Recreation asks for entertainment survey help

The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) department of Naval District Washington (NDW) plans to continue to provide quality entertainment in 2013, as it did in 2012, including the Defenders of Freedom event at Six Flags America.

The Six Flags event featured exclusive use of the entire entertainment park and a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert.

To help NDW MWR plan, they have requested your input letting them know what you would like to enjoy and how much it should cost.

All personnel at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, including civilians, mission partner personnel and dependents, are requested to consider completing the survey.

Your cooperation in completing an online survey would be helpful to NDW MWR as they look at ways to enhance their program.
